Is my child eligible for a free Big Norfolk Festive Holiday Fun space?

All children may sign up for holiday activities. However free spaces are available for children aged 5-16 (or 4 if they’re in school) who are eligible for means-tested free school meals.

To receive means-tested school meals, you must receive one of these benefits:

• Universal Credit – with an annual earned income of no more than £7,400 after tax
• Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• Working Tax Credit run-on or Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual gross income of no more than £16,190

When will the programme take place?

The Big Norfolk Holiday Fun festive programme will take place during the school holidays. Most of the activities will be held over the week from 20th – 23rd December with a few taking place in the week after this. There will be a range of activities available all over the county, aimed at various ages.

It’s a fantastic way to encourage children and young people to try new things whilst keeping their brains and bodies stimulated over the school holidays.

Does my child need a code to take part?

The Big Norfolk Holiday Fun Festive programme is open to all children and young people aged 5-16 (or 4 if they’re slightly younger but in full time education). There are loads of providers signed up to the programme, and something for everyone to enjoy. This could be music, sports and leisure or arts and crafts. It could also include cultural and drama sessions.

A set number of free spaces on each activity can be claimed by children who receive means-tested free school meals. If your child receives means-tested free school meals, their school will have a code which will enable them to book a free place on Big Norfolk Holiday Fun activities. Please contact your child’s school directly if they are eligible but haven’t received this.

If your child does not receive means-tested free school meals, they may still book onto and enjoy a fantastic range of festive activities for a small fee. You do not need a code for this, and can book directly by using the links below.

How to book onto activities:

To book onto the activities, you should first check out the Big Norfolk Holiday Fun programme below to see what interests you. Once you’re ready to book, visit the Norfolk Community Directory using the booking links below. Then simply select a session near you and register your child for a space using the instructions in the ‘How to Book’ section.

Children who are eligible for means-tested free school meals will receive a code to claim free activities from their school. If you have received a code from your child’s school, you should mention this when booking onto your chosen holiday activities in order to claim your child’s free place.

The East Anglia Gymnastics sessions are for children aged 4-16 with a HAF code. They offer expert gymnastics coaching, and help develop and shape children’s futures.

The Football Fun Factory Camps are open to boys and girls aged 4-12 of any ability or experience level. There are spaces for those with a code as well as paid spaces available. They are held in various locations and offer a range of fun and exciting inflatable football activities which your child will love.

What is the Big Norfolk Holiday Fun programme?

Big Norfolk Holiday Fun is aimed at children aged 5-16 (or 4 if your child is slightly younger but in school). It’s to help your children move lots, eat well and have fun.

Most of the festive sessions will run between 20th – 23rd December. A select few will run in the week after this.

There are activities available for all children. A few activities are reserved for those who have a code, and there are a number of free spaces on each session reserved for children who receive means-tested free school meals. To claim your child’s free space, you’ll need a code provided by your school.

What sort of activities are available?

There are loads of activities for your child to enjoy. The sessions will include a variety of activities, including sports, music, arts and other exciting opportunities to learn and develop skills, alongside a nutritious meal each day.

How do I get a code?

If your child receives means-tested free school meals, they’re eligible to take part in the activities for free.

To book a free session, you’ll need a code. Schools will be distributing these codes directly to children who receive free school meals, so be sure to contact your child’s school directly if you have not received one.

If you live in Norfolk but your child attends a school in another county then please contact bnhf@norfolk.gov.uk for your code.

I’m not sure if I’m eligible for a free spot, how can I check?

Children who are eligible for means-tested school meals may sign up to the free activities using a code provided by their school. This does not include children who receive universal free school meals.

Most parents will be aware if their child is eligible as they will be receiving free meals. However, if you think you might be eligible and not receiving means-tested free school meals, check with your child’s school.

If your child doesn’t receive free school meals, they may still take part in many of the sessions for a small fee. The cost depends on the session.

Where can I book onto the activities?

You can book your children onto activities by visiting the Norfolk Community Directory here.

Once you are on the Norfolk Community Directory, you can use the bar on the left to filter activities by type and whether a code is required.

 

My child doesn’t receive free school meals – can they still take part?

Of course! There are certain activities that are only available for children who receive means-tested free school meals.

However, if your child doesn’t receive means-tested free school meals, they may still sign up to many of the activities for a small cost.
